2 In Custody In String Of Burglaries, Thefts In Westmoreland Co.

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Police have two suspects in custody in a rash of burglaries and thefts in Westmoreland County.

Tyler Williams, 18, was already in the Westmoreland County Jail in connection with one home burglary when he and an alleged juvenile accomplice were hit with more than two dozen similar charges Tuesday.

"These two individuals went on one heck of a crime spree," said Trooper Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police.

One of the homes broken into belongs to Richard Palmer. The suspects got into his Hempfield Township home after police say they broke into a car in the driveway and hit the garage door opener.

"They came out of here with some stuff, about $800 worth of stuff," said Palmer.

The only thing that kept the suspects from getting into the living quarters, unlike other targeted homes, was a locked door.

"I'm sort of glad I didn't hear it going up or I'd of opened that door and probably would have been shot," said Palmer.

The two suspects allegedly went anywhere and everywhere in the county to steal anything they could get their hands on.

"There was an amazing amount of things these people stole," said Trooper Limani. "We're talking about cars, jewelry, money."

Add to that list guns, which state police say have been recovered. What's so shocking for law enforcement is the age of the perpetrators.

"We're talking about two young individuals," said Trooper Limani. "It's a shame that at this point in their life they're going to spend the majority of it in some type of incarceration."

Williams remains in the Westmoreland County Jail on multiple counts of burglary and other thefts. The juvenile also believed involved is in the Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Center and he may still be charged as an adult.
