Ike Taylor Says He And Troy Polamalu Want To Keep Playing

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor talked with Joe Starkey of Starkey and Mueller about his future in the league and how he hopes his career isn't over.

As much as Ike says he wants to keep playing, he recognizes that it's unlikely that will happen with the Steelers.

"I'm always ready to play football," Taylor said. "As far as coming back, yes, if anybody wants me, I'm willing to come back."

When asked specifically if he thinks his playing days with the Steelers are done, Taylor said he thinks so.

"I think I am," he said. "I don't want to be; I think it's just parting ways. I'm not going to feel a mutual agreement because I'm always wanting to be a part of the Steelers, but just looking at the business side of it, I think it's pretty much a wrap."

Ike also talked about the influence Dick LeBeau has had on him and the other Steelers veterans and if he could see himself following his old defensive coordinator down to Tennessee.

"That's how much Dicky (Dick LeBeau) means to a lot of these guys on this team," Taylor said. "It's bigger than football, it's family."

When it comes to how much safety Troy Polamalu has left in the tank and if he's planning on playing next year, Ike said Troy is working out now and doesn't plan on retiring.

"Troy's training. Troy's got his own thing going; he's going to be ready. I hope he's playing in Pittsburgh."

Ike added that Troy does want to continue playing and that he and the other Steelers veterans in Polamalu, James Harrison and Brett Keisel all still have football left in them.
