1 Shot, 5 Injured At Strip District Night Club

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a shooting at a Strip District night club that happened overnight.

Police say the shooting took place at Club Ivy around 1 a.m.

When they arrived, police say they saw people leaving through the front doors and even hanging from a second-floor balcony.

"They heard a lot of commotion," said Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Sonya Toler. "They heard shots fired, turned and saw people running out of the club. Literally people were coming out over the balcony trying to escape the gunfire inside."

Officers had to force their way inside as dozens of patrons rushed through the doors. Once inside, police learned that one man had been shot.

The man had been shot in the thigh and finger, and was taken to the hospital.

Police say four women and another man were also injured by broken glass while trying to leave the club.

As a result of the incident, Club Ivy is once again getting attention from the Allegheny County District Attorney.

D.A. Spokesman Mike Manko says in a statement:

"Our office is quite concerned with the history of various license holders who have been in that location. That location over the years has spent time on the nuisance bar list and our office will be meeting with city police and the LCE tomorrow to see what needs to be done to prevent this type of incident."

No word on the suspected shooter.
