Teacher's Aide Accused Of Throwing Shoe To Attend Rehab Program

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A teacher's aide, accused of throwing a shoe at a special needs student, has been accepted into a rehab program.

The special needs teacher's aide, 59-year-old Sharon Kosko, is accused of dragging the student across a carpet by her feet and throwing a shoe at the girl.

It allegedly happened at Penn Middle School in late February.

"An agreement was reached today in an unfortunate case," said defense attorney Timothy Dawson.

Tuesday was to Kosko's preliminary hearing on simple assault and harassment counts.

"The victim was here," said Dawson. "We had the opportunity to discuss the situation with the school. My client gave a full statement."

Given accelerated rehabilitate disposition, Kosko – who has never had a run in with the law - will be cleared of probation after her ARD program is complete.

The parents of the victim declined comment.

Kosko's attorney, meanwhile, says his client regrets what happened.

"There was no intent to injure this precious little girl. Fortunately, she was not hurt," Dawson said. "It was an unfortunate incident, mistakes were made, and we move on from here."

Kosko remains out of the classroom. She remains under suspension by the Penn-Trafford School District.
