Report: Forbes Reveals Value Of Pirates Franchise
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Forbes is out with its annual Major League Baseball franchise values, and the Pirates appear to be in the middle of the pack.
According to Forbes, the Pirates are valued at $900 million dollars, good for 17th overall.
In terms of their operating income, Forbes says the Pirates brought in almost $44 million, good for 5th highest. On the other side of the state, the Philadelphia Phillies had the biggest loss coming in at $39 million.
Overall, Forbes estimates that all of Major League Baseball is worth $36 billion with the average team being worth $1.2 billion.
When it comes to the Pirates division, the Chicago Cubs are worth the most at $1.8 billion, good for fifth amongst all teams, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals at $1.4 billion (6th overall).
Both the Cincinnati Reds ($885 million) and the Milwaukee Brewers ($875 million) and ranked below the Pirates.
It is worth noting that each year Forbes comes out with these franchise values, they are disputed by the teams.
