Paralyzed Dog Finds New Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The little beagle mix found abandoned in Penn Hills earlier this year now has a place to call home.

According to the Animal Rescue League, Gracie was adopted Tuesday by experienced pet owners, Dr. David and Terri Petrick.

Gracie was found in January on the side of the road with paralyzed back legs. She was taken to the animal shelter and offers poured in to help her.

She wasn't a candidate for surgery as Animal Rescue League officials had hoped, but she has been receiving intensive physical therapy.

Since then she has regained some feeling in her legs and can wag her tail again, along with other improvements to her condition. She also received a custom-built wheelchair to make it easier to get around.

Animal Rescue League officials say she will still need to have regular physical therapy treatments.

At her new home, officials say Gracie will have her owner's grandchildren to play with, as well as other dog siblings.
