Wilkinsburg Boy Dies After Allegedly Taking Pill From Another Boy

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) –A 12-year-old Wilkinsburg boy died after his family says another boy gave him a pill.

The funeral was held for Sincere Powell this morning.

His family says he died after taking the pill, given to him by another boy at a neighborhood basketball court.

"He was saying, like, basically like it makes you feel good, or dizzy or something of that sort," said Sincere's mother, Melissa Hughes.

Hughes says while on the court, Sincere's brother warned him not to ingest the pill. He came home, went to bed that night and died in his sleep.

"I went in there and he was laying face down, just like he does when he sleeps, like this, and he was gone," said Hughes.

Now the family is trying to cope.

"That's what's given to you," said Hughes' boyfriend Brandon Johnson, "is a death certificate. Pictures, memories, smiles that we won't ever get to see."

Wilkinsburg Police have turned the investigation over to county police.

It's believed detectives know who gave Sincere the pill, but police are waiting on the toxicology reports to determine what it contains.

Sincere's mother doesn't blame the child who gave her son the pill, as much as she blames his parents.

"This is reckless," she said. "You, you're not watching your children enough that he took something outside and gave it to another child."

Police are still investigating and have not determined the manner of death.
