Fatal Shooting Under Investigation In South Oakland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after one person was killed and a second person was injured in a shooting in the South Oakland section of the city Wednesday night.

It happened after 9 p.m. in the 3200-block of Ward Street.

Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots.

"I heard gunshots. I initially just thought it was fireworks and then looked outside. Five minutes later and there was cops, a lot of cops," Vogel said.

Ashok Gurring called 911 and said it looked like one man who'd been shot was trying to drag himself to the sidewalk where the other victim was.

"There was one guy and he was lying down and he was saying, 'I'm shot, please help me,'" Gurring said.

The man who was killed was shot multiple times.

"The guy was lying outside on the ground. He was covered in a towel. It was a white towel. Laying there looks like he was in pain. I saw his arms moving a little bit," Kenny Grossman, a neighbor said.

The other victim suffered a gunshot wound to the lower portion of his body. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. He's in stable condition.

"Two males, we know that they were at least on the street together when the shooting happened," said Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler. "We don't know if they were shooting at one another or if they were both friends and they were walking when they got shot."

Several homes and cars were also hit by the gunfire.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. They were not students at Pitt.

There's no word yet on what prompted the shooting.
