PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Happy Mother's Day to Dorothy the Peregrine falcon who lives on the Cathedral of Learning.

It appears one of her chicks hatched.

The WQED blog "Outside My Window" also reports the egg has hatched. According to the blog, it hatched at 4:53 a.m. Sunday morning.

Dorothy has been shielding what looks like a fluffy, white chick pretty closely. However, a few times when she's adjusted herself, you can get a quick peek at the chick.

At 16 years old, Dorothy has beaten the odds with her success hatching eggs.

"It is unusual. She's been a very productive female; she's had many eggs and many successful fledglings," said Robert Mulvihill, an ornithologist at the National Aviary. "I believe more than 40 of her offspring have successfully fledged from the Cathedral of Learning."

Dorothy is mother to 42 other birds already.
