Rob Scahill Talks About His Surprising Start To Season

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates relief pitcher Rob Scahill joined "The Fan Morning Show" Thursday to talk about his incredible performance over the first six weeks of the season, which has been a pleasant surprise for the Pirates.

Scahill said he's doing the best he can with the opportunity he's been given.

"Just trying to make the most of the opportunities that I've been given," Scahill said. "Come in and pound the strike zone and try to get guys out early in the count. When I do that and I'm down in the zone, good things tend to happen."

Scahill praised the Pirates' coaches that work with the pitchers, which include Ray Searage, Jim Benedict, and Euclides Rojas.

"They've got a great ability to communicate with you," Scahill said. "They find out a way that you can understand it and they will talk to you about it in that way instead of just one way of talking to everybody. They personalize it and it's good. They are very understanding and very knowledgeable people."

Scahill also had plenty of good things to say about manager Clint Hurdle.

"He's a very stand-up guy," Scahill said. "You get exactly what you see out of him. There's no change in who he is. He's a great person and a great leader. After I got traded over to the Pirates, he called me that day, on his way back from finishing second for manager of the year. I mean, after I talked to him for like 15 minutes, I was like, this is a guy that I cannot wait to play for."
