Harmony Ridge Golf Club Clubhouse Destroyed By Fire

AMBRIDGE (KDKA) - The clubhouse at a local country club was destroyed by a fire Monday morning.

According to officials, the fire started at the Harmony Ridge Golf Club in the 1200-block of Breitenstein Road around 6 a.m.

The building had stood for almost 100 years. It's a devastating loss not only to the owners, but the surrounding community.

At one point, fire crews knew there wasn't much they were going to be able to do.

"I had a three-man crew from my department go in. They were forced back out by flames and smoke," Harmony Township Fire Chief Jim Curcio said.

As crews dealt with water issues, they were forced to call a third alarm to get tankers to the scene.

Meanwhile, fire consumed the clubhouse.

Shane Miller worked there for four years. He saw the smoke and immediately called the owners.

"I just [saw] it and it was gone," Miller said. "It's devastating. It really is. I feel bad for them. They love this place."

The owners, Greg and Ricki Paul, said they bought the place in 2008. The building, which was destroyed, is where they held their banquets and managed the nine-hole course.

They had recently reconfigured the greens and were ready to welcome golfers back this weekend.

The owners say the course will remain open, but they are still working out a plan for the upcoming events that were scheduled.
