Charlie Morton 1 Step Closer To Joining Pirates Rotation

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Making his third and possibly final rehab start, Pirates starter Charlie Morton pitched 6 1-3 innings for the team's Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians, allowing two runs, one earned, on just two hits while walking four and striking out nine.

Morton threw a total of 96 pitches, 68 for strikes.

Morton is on the mend from his September 2014 hip surgery to repair his labrum. According to manager Clint Hurdle, he will go right back into the rotation upon his activation from the disabled list.

It appears that Morton will take the place of Vance Worley as the team recently skipped his latest start and has had him working out of the bullpen.

The 31-year-old Morton was 6-12 with a 3.72 ERA for the Pirates in 2014. Morton's ERA would represent an upgrade over Worley as well as Jeff Locke.
