3 Injured In Violent I-376 Head-On Crash

CENTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- State police are investigating a violent head-on crash along Interstate 376 in Beaver County.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday, in the outbound lanes between the Aliquippa and Center Township exits.

State police say a car driven by Matthew Zajdel, 34, of Rochester, was heading the wrong way in the outbound lanes. While going around a curved portion of the road, Zajdel's car hit another vehicle head-on.

Zajdel and the driver the other car, Joshua Travis, 22, of Erie, were both flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for their injuries. There is no word on their current conditions.

Rachel Heinrich, 23, of Waterford, a passenger in Travis' car, was taken by ambulance to Heritage Valley Medical Center.

Interstate 376 was closed down for more than two hours as state police investigated the cause of the crash.

State police say evidence at the scene indicates alcohol might have been a contributing factor in this crash.
