McKeesport Woman Accused In Husband's Death Headed To Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A McKeesport woman accused of shooting and killing her husband after breaking into their home is headed to trial.

Patricia Katchur, 55, is accused of killing her husband, 52-year-old Christopher last month.

According to police, the two had gotten into a physical altercation earlier in the day.

Patricia did not report it to police and went to stay with her sister.

When she returned to her McKeesport home Wednesday, Christopher would not let her in the house. She called police, who allowed her to enter the home to get some of her belongings.

A detective advised Christopher Katchur to obtain a protection from abuse order at that time.

Meanwhile, Patricia went back to her sister's house and retrieved two guns. When she returned to the McKeesport home for a second time on Wednesday, her husband was not home.

Patricia removed an air conditioning unit from a window and crawled inside the home, where she took a sleeping pill.

Two hours later she woke up to her husband yelling at her that he had obtained a protection from abuse order and that she needed to leave.

According to police, that is when she pulled out the gun and shot her husband, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patricia said she unloaded the gun, put it on a coffee table and didn't leave the house until police arrived.

Following the shooting, family and friends of the victim gathered to console one another in an emotional scene outside of the home.

Patricia was questioned at Allegheny County Police headquarters overnight, charged with criminal homicide and escorted to the Allegheny County Jail.

The defense attorney and the family of the defendant said nothing to reporters after Friday's hearing. Christopher Kutchar's family had no comment either.

She will be formally arraigned next month.
