Police Say Teller Was In On Bank Heist With Robbery Suspect

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Pittsburgh police say a teller was in on a bank robbery at a PNC Bank branch last month.

That's why the robbery suspect, 45-year-old Shawn Stevens and the teller, 28-year-old Wade Jones, have both been arrested on robbery and conspiracy charges.

Police say Stevens went into the bank in the city's Shadyside neighborhood and handed a note to Jones, the teller on duty, about 4 p.m. May 22.

Police say when Stevens went into the bank he asked Jones for money and got away with $6,500. After that, police say Jones waited before pressing the alarm and then lied to police saying he gave away $2,500.

When police caught Stevens, they say he confessed and told them Jones was in on the heist.

Online court records don't list attorneys for the men, whose charges were announced Friday.

Stevens was in custody and awaiting arraignment. Jones was arraigned on Wednesday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 10.
