Quick-Moving Fire Destroys Fayette Co. Home

UPPER TYRONE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - As many as 40 firefighters were called to a home in Upper Tyrone Township to fight a fire Tuesday morning.

In a matter of minutes, the home that stood at 166 Montgomery Road in Upper Tyrone Township was destroyed by flames.

The initial call to emergency dispatchers was made around 6 a.m.

"It was fully involved when we first pulled in," said Everson Volunteer Fire Chief Chuck Leighty. "It took us two minutes to get from our station, up the hill here."

Leighty said no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. However, they want to know who lived there.

"There is someone who lives here, we just don't know that resident's name at the present time," said Leighty. "We're working on that, and we don't believe there's nobody home because there's no vehicles here."

Firefighters from Everson, Mount Pleasant and Scottdale helped fight the flames. At one point, they had to use tankers when they lost water pressure from a nearby hydrant.

"We did lose water pressure out of our hydrant right there," said Leighty. "But, we called in our other sources, which we call tankers when we need them, so we had our water supply."

The state police fire marshals have already started their investigation into what caused the fire.
