North Side Transformer Failure Knocks Out Power To Route 65 Traffic Lights

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) - A downed tree caused a transformer to fail on the North Side overnight, which knocked out power to traffic lights on Route 65 and hundreds of customers.

According to Duquesne Light officials, the transformer failed around 4 a.m. A large tree fell and pulled down several power lines near the intersection of Jacks Run and Brighton Roads.

As a result, traffic lights at Route 65 and the McKees Rocks Bridge lost power. Police officers were out during the morning commute to direct traffic in the area.

At the height of the outage, about 1,000 customers were without power.

Power to the traffic lights and most customers was restored around 8 a.m.

As of 9 a.m., crews were still working to replace three affected telephone poles in the area. Service is expected to be fully restored by noon.
