Man Questioned In 2 East Hills Murders Returned To Pittsburgh Jail

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The former boyfriend of a woman found slain along with her grandmother in western Pennsylvania has been returned to a Pittsburgh jail after he was first taken into custody in New Jersey.

Twenty-five-year-old Cesar Mazza is being held unrelated assault charges involving one of the slaying victims, 19-year-old Tionna Banks.

Mazza was returned to the Allegheny County Jail over the weekend. He has been questioned but not charged in the killings of Banks and her 72-year-old grandmother, Valorie Crumpton.

Mazza had been arrested in Newark, New Jersey in May on Allegheny County bench warrants, including two charging him with failing to appear in court on charges he assaulted Banks last fall.

Banks had obtained protection-from-abuse orders against Mazza, saying he threatened to kill her, before she and Crumpton were found slain May 7 in Pittsburgh.
