Crafton Heights Shooting Suspect Turns In Self

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –A man wanted for allegedly shooting his estranged wife in Crafton Heights has turned himself into police.

According to police, 49-year-old Robert Amend surrendered Friday morning around 11:50 a.m. at the municipal court downtown.

Amend is accused of shooting his estranged wife, Tina Thornton, several times at an apartment on Woodlow Street around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The criminal complaint says he forced his way in the home and shot Thornton in the side and leg. She survived her injuries.

Following the shooting, Amend went on the run and was spotted several times in Butler County. In one instance, he led police on a chase in the Chicora area.

Amend crashed his car into a nearby trailer park. He hasn't been seen since. Several police agencies including the SWAT team spent the day and night trying to find Amend.

Amend has been arraigned and is currently in the Allegheny County Jail.

He faces multiple charges, including criminal attempted homicide, fleeing and eluding.
