Police Investigate Sexual Assault, Stabbing In Arnold

ARNOLD (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a woman was attacked with a butcher knife and sexually assaulted early this morning in Westmoreland County.

Police say the 28-year-old victim from Kittanning was attacked around 5:20 a.m. in the 300-block of 14th Street in Arnold.

The assault happened on the side of house, and most of the homes in the neighborhood are abandoned or empty.

"She was saying, 'He's trying to kill me, he's trying to kill me,'" said neighbor Silva Ziemke, who helped the woman.

Police say she was assaulted and then slashed on the neck, side and forearm. She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment and is in fair condition.

"The guy had pulled her in the house, the guy and someone else raped her repeatedly," said Arnold Police Chief Shannon Santucci-Davis. "He was trying to kill her, he wanted to slice her throat."

"She had five superficial stab wounds. Nothing that's life-threatening. I believe she's in fair condition at this time," Santucci-Davis added.

The Trib also reports police served a search warrant later in the morning at a home 14th Street where the assault happened.

Police say the woman gave them a vague description of the attackers, and they don't know if she knew them.

"All she's saying is two black males, one was very muscular in stature," said Santucci-Davis. "That's all we have at this time."

However, police revealed they've now found a key piece of potential evidence in the assault.

"We believe it was a butcher knife and upon searching the house, they did find the knife," said the chief.
