Fatal Shooting Prompts SWAT Situation In East Hills

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police and the SWAT team were called to the city's East Hills section this afternoon after a man was wounded in a shooting.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 600-block of Fahnstock Avneue.

When police arrived at the scene, they received reports that the shooter may have run into a home. The SWAT team was called to the scene.

"They did what we call a surround and call out," said Zone 5 Commander Jason Lando. "They set up a safe perimeter so no one could escape. They got on the PA system, asked everyone to exit the home. After several minutes, four people inside the home came out with their hands up."

The victim in the shooting was shot multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police say the man wasn't from the East Hills neighborhood. So far, his identity hasn't been released.

Witnesses told police they saw four people run into a home near the shooting scene. After the SWAT team got all four of them to come out, they were taken to city police headquarters for questioning.

Police believe the four people inside the home are witnesses in the case.

No homes in the neighborhood were evacuated.

"There were some people that expressed concerns because people couldn't leave their homes. We told them the SWAT team was there for their safety, to protect them."

So far, no charges have been filed in the deadly shooting.
