Police: Serial Robber Arrested, Admits He Needed Money For Heroin

FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) – Police say they've caught a serial robber.

He's accused of holding up more than 10 businesses, many in Fayette County.

But he's also accused of hitting ones in the City of Pittsburgh and in West Virginia.

William S. Hall, 32, admitted to state troopers he robbed 13 stores and motels in West Virginia, Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.

The reason he did it: to get money for heroin.

Hall was a one-man robbery machine between July 17 and Aug. 15. The frightening man masked in black with a gun, holding stores at gunpoint.

But Hall's alleged crime run is done.

"I found out around 7:30, 8 o'clock he was put in jail," said store owner Richard Adobatta.

Adobatta's Tri-Town Store was one of the 13 Hall admitted to robbing. The list shows he traveled far and wide to take money and run – all to fuel his heroin habit. A tip led police to Hall's capture.

"The anger isn't gone, but perhaps we can get back to a little normal here," said Adobatta.

Adobatta's son was the one working when the store was held up at gunpoint. He says it's changed the way they do business.

"Our sense of security, we never had the sense of being robbed," he said. "We thought this would be the last place on Earth that was ever gonna get robbed."

Especially haunting is the image of Hall pointing a .40 caliber Ruger pistol at his son.

"The anger and frustration and inability to do anything, because I didn't know who did this to my son," said Adobatta. "Very frustrating as a father."

Hall is currently in the Fayette County Jail on $100,000 straight cash bond.
