Man Charged In Murder Of His Father In Sharpsburg

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) -- A Sharpsburg man is dead and his son is in custody following a stabbing at an apartment building Monday evening.

It happened at around 6 p.m. at the intersection of 19th and Main Streets.

David Schreiber, 63, was stabbed in his second-floor apartment on Main Street.

A neighbor, Bonita Pendergraf, says she was cooking when someone came to her door covered in blood.

"He had blood all over him, and he was shaking a little bit, and I'm like, 'Are you serious?'" said Pendergraf. "And he's like, 'Yeah, call the police and the paramedics.' And I said to him again, 'Are you serious?' He said, 'Yeah, I just killed my dad.'"

Police have charged 35-year-old Daniel Schreiber with homicide.

Lt. Andrew Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police, said the elder Schreiber was found lying on the hallway floor and the suspect wasn't far away.

"They found a 63-year-old man who had been stabbed multiple times," said Lt. Schurman. "He was ultimately pronounced dead here at the scene. They also encountered another male at the scene who was detained for questioning."

John Panza, a friend of the murder victim, said Schreiber, "was a military veteran and a nice guy."

"He didn't bother a soul, and everybody liked him," said Panza.
