Parkway East Fatal Shooting Suspect Turns In Self

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting along the Parkway East is now in police custody.

Keontre Easley, 19, of Braddock, accused of shooting a man in the backseat of a moving car on the Parkway East Sunday night, has been charged with murder.

He turned himself into state police early Tuesday afternoon.

"We definitely have someone off of the streets who could be obviously dangerous. If he took the life of one person, he is probably willing to take the life of another," said Trooper Robin Mungo, of Pennsylvania State Police.

Police say Easley was arguing in the backseat of a moving car with 24-year-old Shaka McGhie of Wilkinsburg.

According to investigators, the two were arguing over heroin and money, about $17,000.

Investigators say sometime around 11 p.m. Sunday one the Parkway East near Churchill, Easley pulled a gun in the car. McGhie was shot three times.

"For someone to take someone's life that easy… no respect for life," said Trooper Mungo.

Easley's attorney says his client tells a different story about the chain of events.

KDKA's Marty Griffin: "They characterize your client who murdered someone over $17,000 and some heroin.

Attorney Paul Iannetti: "I haven't even read the entire police report yet. This moved very fast for us this morning. There will be facts that come out that contravene that."

Sadly, police also report there was a woman following McGhie on the Parkway when the shooting occurred; in fact, she drove him to Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the car with her was a small child who police say may have witnessed the gun flashes from the shooting and saw the victim's bullet-riddled body.
