Woman Cited For Interfering With Police Appears In Court

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A woman cited for interfering with a police situation was in court Thursday.

Kim Bracken was riding her bike on the North Side in April, when stopped to witness police attempting to apprehend a man.

"I saw the young man on the ground surrounded by many, many cops," said Bracken in April. "I was just walking by. I understood there was a police incident, I didn't want to interfere with that, I just wanted to observe."

Bracken with charged with interference with official duties. And in court today, she was convicted of that count.

"We respectfully disagree with what was said and we're going to appeal," Bracken said after the court proceedings.

Police say the suspect was a juvenile and that he had been seen with a gun. They had a wider perimeter than usual because a weapon was involved.

They ordered Bracken to leave the area because of the threat of the weapon.

Pittsburgh Police spokesperson Sonya Toler said Bracken appeared to close to the scene for comfort.

"The officer was concerned for her safety," said Toler. "She was close to the scene where there was a live weapon."

In addition to the guilty conviction, Bracken was fined $300, but she says she intends to appeal the entire decision. She has 30 days to formal get it filed.
