Hundreds Pack North Shore For Pierogi Fest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Hundreds of people packed Stage AE on the North Shore for the third annual Pierogi fest.

Pierogi makers from all over the region were serving up their best butter-fried and onion-topped concoctions.

Cop-Out Pierogies even had a wedding cake made of their sweet dessert "pie-rogies." Cop-Out owner Carl Funtale is a former Shaler motorcycle cop who specializes in making unique pierogies like pepperoni pizza, Reuben and shrimp-and-grits.

"I've been eating them my whole life, but if you say potatoes and dough, it really doesn't sound good," he said. "I know they are, I've been eating them, other people have, so we come up with other flavors to introduce people to pierogies."

In addition to pierogies, many food trucks were also at the festival, including South Side BBQ, Uncle Charley's Sausage and the PGH Taco Truck.
