Australian Rugby Reporter Live Blogs Steelers-49ers Game With Hilarious Results

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Australians may know a lot about rugby, but what about American football?

Well, with former rugby player Jarryd Hayne playing with the 49ers, The Guardian is having their Rugby reporter, Matt Cleary, cover Hayne's games. Although, admittedly he doesn't necessarily know that much about football in the US.

In his updates during Hayne's first game against the Vikings, Cleary writes: "I don't admit to knowing a motherlode about American football but I do know there's a third-string punt returner and/or running back playing called Jarryd "Hayne Plane and/or Train" Hayne, wearer of the most famous No38 in Australian sports history. So yes, there's been some hype."

And the results are pretty funny.

Here are some snippets from his live blog on the Guardian's site during today's game so far:

"Okay - Steelers are just bare ... they're second and goal which means they're so close to the ... touchdown! THEY'RE IN THE STEELERS, BENNY ROETHLISBERGER PINGED A HARD ONE AT THE HUGE MAN IN THE MIDDLE, Oh.

No touchdown."

Later followed with:

"Oh man - I've stuffed it up. The Steelers scored a touchdown. Then scored an extra two points instead of one when they threw to Antonio Brown. The touchdown was to another man, the tall man. It's 8-nothing Steelers."

It may not be a very serious coverage of the game, but it's good for a few chuckles during commercial breaks.
