PPG Gets Creative To Unveil Color Of The Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - What's your favorite color? A color that really speaks to you?

A national paint company centered right here in Pittsburgh is going beyond your normal reds, greens and yellows and it's using some sleight of hand to reveal the color of the year.

Choosing the right color paint can be daunting and the options are endless.

Now, PPG is trying to make it simple.

"It can be anywhere. It can be in the dining room. It can be in the living room. It can be in the kitchen. So, there's a lot of opportunity for this color because it is very versatile," PPG's Senior Color Marketing Manager Dee Schlotter said.

For 2016, the color is Paradise Found.

"The color of the year always inspires people. They are always looking for what is new and to say what color is trending. We see it coming in home decor too. We see comforters, bedding, tableware, fabrics, window treatments coming out in this color for next year too," Schlotter said.

To celebrate the announcement, PPG has brought Bryan Berg to town to build three iconic Pittsburgh buildings.

"I was introduced to cardstacking by my grandfather who was a bit of a card player. I am trained as an architect, so you can kind of connect the dots," Berg said.

Perhaps the most important tool that Bryan uses he calls his humidity gadget. It measures the relative humidity. With all the rain, he has to be careful because too much humidity and the cards will bow.

"He is going to do PNC Park in honor of the Pirates, and it's going to feature a blue which is also trending next year -- and Heinz Field in a Curry Sauce yellow which is also trending next year," Schlotter said.

"This is kind of a unique project because we are using the PPG color of the year here on PPG Place here in particular, and so I don't normally paint my structures so this is kind of a fun one for me because I don't normally get to do anything terribly colorful," Berg said.

His first building is PPG Place. For that, he will use more than 10,000 cards.
