Ex-CFO Of Custom Homes Firm Charged With Stealing $186,000

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The fired chief financial officer has been charged with stealing roughly $186,000 from a western Pennsylvania custom homes business.

The defense attorney for 40-year-old Shawn Hofmeister, of Harrison City, declined comment on the theft and receiving stolen property charges announced by the Allegheny County district attorney's office on Wednesday.

According to a criminal complaint, officials at the Meritage Group LP determined in December that Hofmeister had paid himself more than his salary since June 2007.

Hofmeister was fired in December and officials also determined that Hofmeister used the company's money to pay his cleaning company, Crystal Clear Cleaning Services, for services it never rendered to the Plum-based custom homes company.

In all, Hofmeister allegedly received more than $166,000 in extra pay and more than $19,000 through his cleaning firm.
