Mayor Orders Investigation After Video Shows Cubs Fan's Violent Arrest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An investigation into the arrest of a Chicago Cubs fan at PNC Park last week has been ordered by Mayor Bill Peduto.

Video of the incident during the Pirates' Wild Card loss was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday.

It shows a Cubs fan in what appears to be a goat costume speaking with an officer. The man was taken into custody after being body slammed to the ground by the officer.

At this point, it is unclear what led to the confrontation.

The fan is known only as Dimitri and as he told SportsMockery.com, it started when a Pirates fan hit him with a tobacco spit cup and they exchanged words.

Eventually a Pittsburgh Police officer told the Cubs fan he has to go and it went downhill from there.

At one point during the altercation, a ball park staffer seems to direct one of the fan's friends to stop recording the event.

And once the friend regroups, the body slam is recorded on camera to the cheers of nearby Pirates fans.

"I got a copy sent to me on Twitter last night and I immediately forwarded it both to the police chief and OMI," said Mayor Bill Peduto. "OMI has started an investigation this morning."

They mayor would not characterize what he saw, leaving that, and the determination of what happened before the video begins, to investigators.

He was surprised the video is just now surfacing and said the city has not been formally contacted by that fan. Even so, he says it's something that should be thoroughly investigated.

"There's been nothing that I've been told of the person," said Peduto. "The Chicago fan hasn't done anything to reach out back to Pittsburgh, but at the same time, even if they haven't there's still video and that video needs to be looked at by OMI."
