Police: 11-Year-Old Brought Knives To High School Football Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An 11-year-old girl in Butler County is facing charges after allegedly bringing knives to a high school football game.

Butler Township Police say they were called to the Butler High School football game on Friday night after school police identified an 11-year-old student at the stadium with weapons.

"The school police were alerted up there that a female student possibly had knives on her," said Butler Township Police Lt. Mathew Pearson.

Authorities say they confiscated two folding knives that police found in her possession.

According to investigators, someone initially alerted school police that the girl had them at the stadium.

"Her parents were contacted and she was released to her parents and charged with weapons on school property," said Lt. Pearson.

The girl's mother told police she did not know why the girl took them to the game. She never threatened anyone with the knives or pulled them out in public view at the stadium.

"At this time we have no idea where the knives came from," Lt. Pearson said.

The superintendent for the Butler School District said the girl will be subject to all existing disciplinary actions as outlined by the district related to weapons on school property.
