Get Marty: Woman Who Listened To First KDKA Radio Broadcast Celebrates 110th Birthday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Lucy Trecasse, of Cabot, made a very unusual Get Marty request; she wanted KDKA's Marty Griffin at her birthday party.

In the case of Trecasse, it was her 110th birthday celebration.

A family member sent an email to Marty that reads, "Could you please come and visit her on her birthday? You are her favorite."

Lucy was born in 1905. The life expectancy back then was just 47 years.

It was a time most folks rode horseback. The Model T wasn't out until 1908.

Ninety percent of all doctors had no college education then. The American flag only had 45 stars. And the average American worker made $200 to $400 per year.

In her teens, during prohibition, Lucy made her favorite drink with her father.

"During prohibition, I made five gallons of beer. It's my secret," says Lucy.

Lucy listens to KDKA Radio every morning in her room.

Turns out, she listened to the first KDKA Radio broadcast 95 years ago.
