Steelers' Cam Heyward Won't Miss Birth Of First Child, Even If It's During Sunday's Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward has already sacrificed for his family.

He paid more than $10,000 to the NFL for wearing an eye black that was a tribute to his late father who died of cancer.

This week though, his eye black might say "new dad."

That's because the time of his wife's due date might coincide with this Sunday's game.

The Steelers are set to host the Oakland Raiders at Heinz Field at 1 p.m.

But Sunday is also the due date for Heyward's wife, Allie.

So what happens, if his wife goes into labor close to game time? It's a question going around the locker room as game day approaches. But Heyward says the choice is obvious.

"I don't think there's a decision to be made. If my baby is on the way on Sunday, I'll be there. But, hopefully, it comes before or after," said Heyward. "Any time before, I'm going to try and be there for my son. If he comes around 4:30, hopefully I'll be there in time and we can have a win-win situation."

The child will be the couple's first.
