Man Accused In Fatal Fayette Co. Police Chase Facing New Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man accused of leading police on a chase, which caused a crash that left a woman dead and a state trooper injured, appeared in court Monday.

Jonathan Michael Switch, 23, of McClellandtown, walked into Fayette County Central Court in Uniontown as a woman, identified as his mother, tried to shield his face.

Switch is accused of leading state troopers on a high-speed chase on Oct. 23.

During the pursuit, one of the pursuing trooper's vehicles accidently slammed into 57-year-olf Bendetta Lynn Miller's vehicle. Miller later died from her injuries.

"He's very remorseful. He feels horrible out of the whole situation and what occurred," said Jack Conner, the defense attorney. "He just feels horrible over the whole circumstance."

The preliminary hearing was continued after the district attorney amended the initial charges in the wake of Miller's death.

"They added vehicular homicide and criminal homicide," said Conner.

With the new criminal homicide charges, Switch is no longer eligible for any type of bond. On the way out of the hearing, he said very little as his mother once again desperately tried to block cameras.

Switch is once again in the Fayette County Jail. His new preliminary hearing date has not yet been set.
