Carrick Man Facing Attempted Homicide Charges After Infant Injured

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Carrick man is facing attempted homicide charges for allegedly injuring his 2-month-old daughter.

Escorted by his attorney, Billy Damond Williams, 23, turned himself in this morning at the Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

Williams faces charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. Court papers detail injuries to Williams' 2-month-old daughter, including rib fractures and bruises.

The infant even had blood vessels burst, due to trauma.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital twice in mid-November and later in December. Her mother believed the bruises were the result of wearing leggings that were too tight.

CYF caseworkers at Children's Hospital called police for reports of injuries to the child that were consistent with child abuse. During separate interviews with both parents, police say the mother was visibly upset when she saw pictures and X-rays of the child's injuries, while Williams seemed emotionless.

"She had rib fractures, broken bones, nobody abused any child in this case intentionally. The child may have received some type of injuries and if so, it was accidental and it wasn't by him," Williams' attorney, Ernest Sharif, said.

Williams told police they'd brought the child to the hospital because she was allergic to the milk she was drinking and had red marks on her face and body. He later admitted that he may have squeezed the baby too hard – claiming it was a result of being too tired.

This isn't the first time Williams has faced charges regarding to abusing an infant. He spent 58 days in jail in 2013 after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and endangering another person in the death of his 5-month-old son.
