Pittsburgh Woman Celebrates 105th Birthday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A North Side native woman celebrated her 105th birthday Saturday.

Annamarie Donovan, who has been at Marian Hall Home for about a week with her sister Betty, says she never expected her 105th birthday to get any publicity.

"I never thought anybody would call your station and say, 'Put this on TV,' I never expected that," she said.

She was greeted Saturday morning by a singing telegram decked out in Steelers gear, since she is a big Steelers fan. She said Art Rooney even sent her and her sister shirts autographed by Ben Roethlisberger.

Donovan says she can remember when TV and newer technologies first came along.

"You just remember all that stuff," she said. "But you don't realize what all you remember until somebody asks you because you think that's in the past. You just took things as they came along."

Now, the 105-year-old says she frequently uses an iPad.

"For being as old as I am, I think I do pretty good," she said.

As far as having a secret for making it to 105 goes, Donovan says she doesn't really have one.

"I think it was the old-fashioned way, you did what you were told," she said. "You took what they gave you if you were sick, you just obeyed orders, that was all."
