Police Investigating Shooting That Injured Child, Woman In McKeesport

MCKEESPORT (KDKA)- Allegheny County homicide detectives are helping with a shooting investigation in McKeesport.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. at a home in the 1700 block of Evans Avenue.

Two people had to be taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The victims are said to be a 4-year-old child and a 20-year-old woman.

Police say both of them are expected to survive.

Multiple bullets holes could be seen from the rear of the home. Investigators spent the morning gathering evidence. Police say there were six people in the home at the time of the shooting. The same home was shot at last Friday and there was a deadly shooting one street over last Saturday.

Georgette Salih says she's nervous about the crime in her Mckeesport neighborhood.

"There was one (shooting) on River View, there was one right over here, one in the alley way and that's all in the last two weeks," said Salih.

The mother of a teenager and a younger child, Salih said she doesn't know how to explain the crime to her children, nor the plight of the place they call home. She cited impoverished housing, roads and sidewalks in desperate need of repair, and the sound of gunshots becoming a regular occurrence.

"It's kind of nerve-wracking to have my children having to hear this in the last two weeks," she said after walking her daughter to her bus stop. "And they're not small guns, they're kind of big."

"It's just usual for McKeesport," said Bill Dougherty. "They've got to do something. I think they should bring the state in here."

Dougherty, a former McKeesport City Council member, said it's time for the violence in his former neighborhood to end.

"It used to be a real good town, but lately, it has gone downhill."

So far, no arrests have been made.
