Pat Narduzzi: 'We're Closer Than People Think' To National Championship Conversation

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Coming off one of the highest rated Pitt recruiting classes since 2008 in just his first full season with the program, Pitt football head coach Pat Narduzzi joined The Starkey and Mueller Show to talk about his 2016 recruiting class.

Narduzzi told us that one of the biggest things that stands out about this class is the size of the players they brought in.

"Number one, I like the size," Narduzzi told us. "We had a smaller class last year, and you know we got 25 great character, intelligent, athletic men and guys that our staff is going to be able to grab and mold...and really turn it into something great."

The key position in every recruiting class is Quarterback and Pitt brought in 3-star QB Thomas MacVittie out of Ohio and Narduzzi told us what he liked most about him.

"A dual threat guy that will lower his head and run through you," Narduzzi said. "I think in today's game you can't just have a stationary Quarterback...Thomas is an athlete. He's a smart athlete that not only can throw the ball and make all the throws down the field, but he can also make plays with his feet and get out of there. Again, he's not afraid of contact, he'll deliver a blow."

With expectations around the Pitt football program growing under Narduzzi, he was asked how close he thinks his program is to being a part of the national championship conversation.

"Like I told recruits, this year we're one game away.  You beat North Carolina, you're probably playing in the ACC Championship game and regardless of who we play in that championship from the Atlantic Division, then you're one game away from there...We're closer than people think...I feel like we're six points and a game away from really being in that ACC Championship game and you win that game, and you got a chance to be in the final four."
