Labrador Retrievers Named Top U.S. Dog Breed For 25th Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Labrador retreiver is number one, for the 25th year in a row!  It's one of many dogs listed by the American Kennel Club as the nation's favorites.

Chris Kane and Jesse Coslov are co-owners of the Dog Stop in the Strip District, and other locations.  As owner of a Lab mix, Coslov wasn't surprised at the number one ranking.

"Great companions.  Easily trainable. Great with kids. An all-around great family dog, and from an all-around standpoint, just a fantastic dog."

Number two on the list: German shepherds.

"They're very trainable, and sometimes they gravitate to one owner more than the other, so some people think they'e a little standoffish," Kane says.  "They'e just very loyal animals."

Ranked number three were golden retrievers.

"Bulldog is probably up higher than I thought it would be, at number four," Coslov says.

"I actually have a boxer and American bulldog myself, so I guess I'm a little jaded to what I like and what I don't like," Kane adds.

The beagle is number five.

The same ten dogs were on the list last year as this year. But there was some movement within the list.  The French bulldog moved up from ninth to sixth.

Samantha Simeone is not surprised to see the Yorkie at number seven.

"I think that they're just like, exciting dogs, and they haved a really good personality.  I know that she's definitely brought a lot of light to my life."
