Tanker Rollover Causes Evacuations In West Mifflin
WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- An area of West Mifflin had to be evacuated Monday after a tractor-trailer rolled along a busy stretch of road.
It happened near a McDonald's in the 2200-block of Lebanon Church Road.
Police say no injuries were reported, but a Hazmat crew was called to the scene. The tanker was carrying liquid nitrogen.
A McDonald's, Denny's and Bob Evans were all cleared because of the possible danger.
"I was serving French toast to a customer, I looked out the window, the truck rolled over on its side and fell, the stuff started pouring out," Denny's server Kristi Emery said.
When people saw the gushing liquid nitrogen, they hurried to get away.
"We had a nearly full restaurant and everyone started to leave in a panic because of the truck being outside flipped over," said Misty Pratt.
The tanker flipped when it was being towed.
The incident caused a traffic nightmare for much of the afternoon.
West Mifflin Police say the driver and the towing company will likely be cited and fined for traffic violations.
