Pitt, WVU Make NCAA Tournament, Download Your Bracket
PITTSBURGH (AP/KDKA) -- The University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team found out Sunday that they made the NCAA Tournament East Region.
Pitt is a 10 seed and will face Wisconsin, a 7 seed on Friday, March 18.
The Panther's Coach Jamie Dixon said the team is pumped.
"It's a great opportunity and we're excited," he said. "We're excited for our kids and the three graduate seniors that came here and wanted to play in the NCAA Tournament. That was their goal and now they will have that opportunity. I'm excited for James [Robinson] and Mike [Lecak] as well. We want to go play good basketball. We have five days to get ready. It's time to find our best basketball.'
The Panthers have made the NCAA Tournament 13 times in the past 15 seasons, tied for seventh-most in the NCAA in that span.
West Virginia grabbed the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 14 Stephen F. Austin in the opening round of the tournament. The game will be played on Friday, March 18th in Brooklyn, New York.
As for the other teams, Oregon received a surprising No. 1 seed, joining Kansas, North Carolina and Virginia with top billing. The Ducks (28-6) beat out Michigan State for a spot on the top line. The Kansas Jayhawks (30-4) are the overall No. 1. They won both the regular-season and conference titles in the nation's toughest league, the Big 12.
