Sheriff: Fugitive Came To Door With Gun Pointed At Deputies

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny Sheriff's deputies reportedly apprehended a man who pointed a weapon in their direction this weekend.

According to a news release, authorities arrived at Maripoe Street in Oakland Saturday morning.

They headed for the apartment of Joel Craft, 44. After announcing themselves repeatedly, the apartment door opened and revealed Craft holding a Ruger 9mm.

Deputies reportedly brandished their firearms and alerted those surrounding the perimeter that he was armed.

After demanding several times that Craft drop the gun, he complied and dropped to his knees.

He was taken to Allegheny County Jail, where he was lodged on a family division warrant, as well as awaiting arraignment on the new charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.

During inspection of the weapon, deputies found it to be loaded, with the hammer back and the safety off. A hollow-point bullet was also reportedly in the chamber.
