Woman Shot & Killed In Westmoreland Co., Man Later Kills Self

SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A woman was found dead in a Westmoreland County home Friday morning and a man sought for questioning took his own life.

According to police, the shooting happened at a home on Scott Haven Road in Sewickley Township around 8:25 a.m.

"State trooper woke me up this morning to this, and tragic stuff to hear," said Richard Coleman, a neighbor. "My neighbor found the lady shot, assumingly dead, up in her trailer, up in her home, inside the trailer up there."

When State Police arrived, they found the woman's body.  She has been identified by the Westmoreland County Coroner's Office as 40-year-old Kelly Detar. She was a mother of two.

According to the coroner's office, Detar died of gunshot wounds to the head.

"We cleared the house, there was no one else in the house. We've secured the house. Right now, we're waiting for search warrants to enter the house and conduct our investigation and do some forensics,"  Trooper Stephen Limani said.

Anthony Detar, 38, and two children also lived in the home. The children, two teenagers, have been accounted for.

Detar was believed to have fled the scene in a silver 2011 Nissan Xterra. Police spotted the vehicle in northern Pennsylvania, about 125 miles away in Marienville, and initiated a traffic stop around noon.

Detar pulled the vehicle over, shot himself and died from the self-inflicted wound.

"The troopers tried to initiate a traffic stop, and right after, there was a gunshot that went off inside the vehicle they were trying to stop," said Trooper Limani.

Anthony Detar was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed on Kelly Detar Friday, and her death was ruled a homicide.

State Police in Greensburg continue to investigate.
