Police: Hungover Butler Co. Man Charged After Son, 4, Found Wandering

BUTLER (KDKA) – A Butler County man is facing charges after his 4-year-old son was found wandering along a local street last week.

Investigators say the little boy was found wandering outside of a home in the 400 block of Eau Claire Street on April 19.

"Our officers got dispatched to 405 Eau Claire Street for a child that was wandering around on the street," said Beaver Police Deputy Chief David Adams.

Police say the boy somehow got out of his home just before 9 a.m. that day and ended up on the front porch of a house one door away.

The neighbor took the boy home, but got no answer at the door, so then called the police.

"The officers were calling for someone to come. After approximately 20 minutes, the father came downstairs, said he was sleeping, and he was intoxicated, and said he didn't know what happened," said Deputy Chief Adams. "He was just sleeping and the boy walked out of the house."

The boy's father, identified as 28-year-old Kurt Kline, was not arrested, but he's been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say before they arrived, the boy tried to get inside his father's truck.

"The boy told them he went into his father's toolbox, grabbed a knife out and was trying to use it as a key to get into his dad's truck," Deputy Chief Adams said.

The boy also had bloody feet when he was found.

"I believe before all this took place before he left the house, he took a coffee carafe and was attempting to make coffee or something with it and it broke on the floor, and he ended up cutting his feet with it," said Deputy Chief Adams.

The boy is fine now. CYS was called in, but police say as far as they know the boy remains with his family.
