WATCH: Woman Helps Three Squirrels Tangled By Their Tails

BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) -- It was a mess that could have proved tragic for a family of squirrels in Beaver Falls.

Last Friday, a woman and her daughter noticed a strange clump of leaves and fabric rustling in their yard.

When they got close, they noticed it was three young squirrels tangled together by their tails.

The daughter, Carla, grabbed some thick boots and heavy gloves and went to work at setting the poor creatures free.

It proved to be a tough task. The young squirrels screeched as she tried to untangle them, biting at her hands, feet and each other.

"Oh my goodness, I know, baby, I know," she's heard trying to console the animals as they struggle.

John, Carla's dad, told KDKA-TV that the stressful ordeal was made more tense by the mother squirrel.

"The mother was above on a branch, about 20 feet above," he said she could be heard making noises throughout.

Finally, after around 30 minutes, the squirrels were untangled. According to John, one ran back up the oak tree where the mother was. Another ran up a nearby pine tree and one scurried off into the wilderness. Eventually, at least two of the squirrels returned to the nest with mom.

Though Carla is seen being bitten by the squirrels, John says she didn't seek any medical treatment because they didn't break the skin.
