15 Dogs, Several Birds Killed In New Castle Fire

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- Two people managed to escape a fire in New Castle, but more than a dozen family pets died.

It happened early Friday morning in a home on Boyles Avenue.

Police say the two-alarm fire started in the garage and quickly spread. The back end of the house sustained flame damage and the entire structure sustained smoke and water damage.

The man and woman who lived there said they had just gone to bed when they heard crackling and escaped.

Unfortunately, all of their pets died in the fire. The residents said 15 dogs and several birds were killed.
