Family Terrified When 3-Year-Old Goes Missing For Hours

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, police got a call that 3-year-old Kymir Woods was missing from his Prospect Terrace home.

Immediately, an all out search for the toddler began.

Police and neighbors started the search, initially there was little clue where Kymir could be. The focus for police and neighbors was a wooded area, not far from Woods' home.

"We're just thinking, he's three years old, how would he have gotten over a fence like this," said rescuer Jawuan Betton, referring to a fence in the family's back yard.

He was found around 7:30 p.m.

Turns out Kymir was on the other side of that fence, but searchers never imagined how he could have ended up there.

"From right here, you could not see anything. There's trees, bushes, they're high," Betton said. "I happened to see the yellow jacket, which he had on. And we went over there to rescue him."

Allegheny County Housing Police Chief Mike Vogel said the child looked stunned.

"He appeared to be a little bit in a daze, when we arrived. A police officer took him outside to the vehicle and he was just staring into space. He was amazed to see all the fire trucks and police response," he said.

It was a happy reunion for Kymir's family.

"His mom was just really relieved that somebody got him," Betton said.
