2 Pedestrians Struck Near PNC Park After Pirates Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A driver struck two pedestrians near PNC Park shortly after the Pirates game Tuesday night.

The incident happened near the T station on West General Robinson Street, between Tony Dorsett Street and Mazeroski Way, around 11 p.m.

According to a witness, the victims were a man and woman, possibly in their 70s, and he believed both suffered head injuries. The witness said the male victim was conscious and coherent after the crash.

"All of a sudden, we heard a big thump and somebody yelled, 'Somebody got hit by a car,'" said Al Ponds, a vendor outside the stadium. "They were both bleeding from their heads...I'm praying for them. Hoping they'll be alright."

He said several people ran over to help, and stayed with the couple until medics and police arrived.

The driver has been identified as Bryant Ellis and he does not have a valid driver's license.

The victims' son told police Ellis was driving at a high-rate of speed prior to the accident.

Ellis said he was unable to stop in time because an oncoming vehicle obstructed his view. However, witnesses were unable to verify his claim.

Both victims were taken to Allegheny General Hospital and were last listed in serious, but stable condition.

Ellis was taken into custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
