Vandergrift Police Asking For Help Finding Missing Man

VANDERGRIFT (KDKA) -- Police are asking for the public's help to find an 85-year-old man who was last seen Tuesday morning.

Vandergrift Police say Joseph J. Franz left his daughter's house in Bethel Park around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

He was driving a 2010 silver, four-door, Ford Focus with a Pennsylvania license plate reading HXA-8929.

Police say he has dementia, high blood pressure, and is hard of hearing.

"My greatest fear right now is that I'm not going to be able to find him," Cindy Wassel, Franz's daughter, said. "I mean, he left yesterday and I don't think he has the capability left to think through how to get from point A in Bethel Park out to an hour and 45 minutes away in Vandergrift."

The family says Franz has been high-strung for the past few weeks, and he's having trouble accepting that he needs help.

Franz was last seen wearing a white polo shirt with a black design on it, cream-colored shorts, a black belt, and black and white tennis shoes.

If you've seen him, you're asked to call Vandergrift Police or Westmoreland County 911.
