Steelers Expecting Big Crowds On Final Day Of Training Camp

LATROBE (KDKA) -- The Steelers have just two more days left at Saint Vincent College before breaking Training Camp, but fans have just one.

Tuesday is the final practice of the season that's open to the public.

Mother Nature has not been kind to the Steelers the last few days, so the crowd was sparse when Monday's adjusted practice got rolling at 11 a.m.

The crowds may have been light, but they were still excited and enthusiastic.

"Every year," says Laurie Brasko, of Maryland. "I will go anywhere else in the world, but this is where I have to come once a year with my husband."

"I was raised going to Forbes Field and Pitt stadium and Three Rivers Stadium, and this is what it's all about, Steelers football," said Rick Brasko.

And the fans watch anticipating only the best.

"I got high expectations," said Ed Baskerville, of Albany, New York. "I'm hoping there's a lot of improvement on the defense. Towards the end of last season it looked like they were coming on and that was something that you didn't hear a lot of people talking about, how the defense was improving."

Tuesday's final day of camp is a bit earlier than most years, so the team is expecting a large final day crowd.

"I can't wait to see that last day, everybody fill up the stands. To be out here with the fans and just let them enjoy and experience the things that we experience all together, said Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.

After Tuesday, it's back to the team's headquarters on Pittsburgh's South Side and closed practices. So, if you have any desire to see the team up close and personal, head to St. Vincent tomorrow.

"Campus opens at noon, as it has been throughout camp, and practice starts at 3 o'clock," said Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten.

However, check before you hit the road to St. Vincent. The weather bounced the schedule around on Monday, so practice was over by the time Yvonne McHenry arrived.

"That's okay. I still love 'em," she said. "I'll be back next year."
